Fil-Am Robertson traded to Penguins in NHL

FILIPINO American National Hockey League (NHL) player Nicholas “Nick” Robertson was traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The 24-year-old forward, younger brother of Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson, achieved his best career point totals in the NHL before the trade.

In Wednesday's trade, Toronto received a fourth-round pick in the 2028 draft.

Last season, Robertson collected 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in 78 regular season NHL games.

His point totals in Toronto were 48 goals and 40 assists for 88 points in 234 games with the Leafs from 2020 to 2026.

The Leafs missed the playoffs last season and selected star forward Gavin McKenna in the 2026 NHL draft last weekend.

Robertson was born to a Scottish father and a Filipina mother. He and his brother are among a handful of active NHL players of Filipino descent. ARIC JOHN SY CUA
