Filipina claims trial over fake gold ring

Kota Kinabalu: A 45-year-old Filipina who holds a Jabatan Ketua Menteri (JKM) letter as her identification document claimed trial in the Sessions Court here Tuesday to attempting to cheat a man over the sale of a fake gold ring.

Binah Warajid entered the plea before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan after the charge was read to her by a court interpreter.

She is accused of attempting to cheat a 40-year-old local man by claiming that a gold ring she wanted to sell to him was genuine, although she allegedly knew it was fake.

Binah allegedly committed the offence at about 2pm on Aug 4 at Kedai Emas Jesselton in 1 Borneo Hypermall, near here.

She was charged under Section 420 read together with Section 511 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment, whipping and a fine upon conviction.

The court fixed Sept 3 for case management and ordered Binah to be remanded pending disposal of the case following an objection by the prosecution.

The prosecution objected to bail as Binah only holds a JKM letter as her identification document.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim appeared for the prosecution, while Binah was unrepresented.
