Good news for frequent travellers as Malaysia has finally introduced a new passport option with up to 10 years of validity.

According to the Passport and Visa Fees (Amendment) Order 2026, a Federal Government Gazette signed by Chief Secretary Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar that was published yesterday (3 June), Malaysians can apply for the 10-year passport at varying fees according to their respective categories.

New passport renewal structure in Malaysia

The move is aimed at reducing the need for frequent passport renewals, especially for frequent travellers.

Previously, Malaysian international passports were issued with a five-year validity period for RM200, while senior citizens paid RM100.

Under the new rules, the fee structure for the 10-year passport is as follows:

  • Malaysians aged 18 to 59: RM350
  • Senior citizens aged 60 and above: RM175
  • Persons with Disabilities (PWD) card holders: Free
  • Immigration Department officers and staff: Free

What about passport replacement fees?

Meanwhile, the gazette also outlines the fees for replacing damaged or lost passports for first-time replacements as follows:

  • Malaysians aged 13 to 59: RM550 (previously RM400)
  • Senior citizens aged 60 and above: RM385
  • Persons with Disabilities (PWD) cardholders: RM200

 

Second replacements

  • Malaysians aged 13 to 59: RM850, with subsequent replacements costing RM1,350
  • Senior citizens aged 60 and above: RM675, with subsequent replacements at RM1,175
  • PWD cardholders: RM500, with subsequent replacements at RM1,000
