If your Spotify Wrapped has ever made you look like a weird fan of nursery rhymes, Disney songs and Cocomelon, there’s a good chance your kids are to blame. Good thing then that Spotify is rolling out a new setting that lets parents exclude kids and family music from their taste profile.

The new “Include kids and family music in taste profile” toggle is rolling out globally on Spotify’s mobile app for both Free and Premium users. It is turned on by default, but you can switch it off whenever you want. This means you can let your children listen to their favourite songs without having them mess up your Spotify recommendations, or perhaps more importantly, your year-end Wrapped.

Once disabled, Spotify will still let you search for and listen to kids and family music as usual. However, those songs will no longer influence personalised features such as Discover Weekly, Daily Mix and Wrapped.

And you don’t have to wait until next year for the change to take effect. Spotify says the setting also works retroactively, so kids and family music you have already streamed will no longer count towards things such as your Wrapped top song or artist. We should note though that Spotify says it can take up to 48 hours for the changes to be reflected in your personalised recommendations.

To turn the feature off, open Spotify on your phone and tap your profile picture in the top-left corner. Go to Settings and privacy, select Content and display, then switch off Include kids and family music in taste profile.

This means you can continue blasting Frozen, nursery rhymes or whatever cartoon theme song your child is currently obsessed with on repeat without worrying that Spotify will decide that’s your actual music taste.

The new setting builds on Spotify’s existing feature that lets users exclude individual tracks or playlists from their taste profile. It also complements Spotify’s managed accounts, which are designed for younger listeners aged 13 and under and give them their own music library, recommendations and Wrapped experience.
