FINANCE Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan has stated that he has yet to decide whether he will contest in the next General Election, choosing instead to prioritise his role as a technocrat serving the nation.

Speaking after a grassroots engagement session, the minister highlighted his commitment to contributing his professional expertise in economics and finance through his current ministerial portfolio.

“Let me continue to help the country in the way I can, and at this moment, I have the opportunity to serve through my duties as Finance Minister II,” he said during the Kampung Angkat MADANI outreach programme in Kampung Pulau Betong.

When questioned about the possibility of standing in the upcoming election, Amir Hamzah reiterated his focus on public service rather than political contestation.

A native of Penang, born at the Penang General Hospital but raised in Kuala Lumpur due to his father’s government service, he brings extensive experience to his ministerial responsibilities.

Previously the Chief Executive Officer of the Employees Provident Fund (KWSP), Amir Hamzah was sworn in as a Senator on 12 December 2023, with his term running until 11 December 2026. - February 15, 2025
