
Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court here on Monday fined a 26-year-old man RM1,500 or a month’s jail for giving a false statement to the police claiming he was robbed.
Sylvester Sinson pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to giving the false written statement to a police officer at 11.15am on Oct 16 at the office of the investigating officer of the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters.
The court heard from the prosecution that Sylvester claimed that he was robbed of a sling bag containing important documents and valuables by two men on motorcycle.
However, when his statement was recorded later, Sylvester confessed to making a false police report and he lost his bag as he was drunk and not robbed, the court heard.
Investigations revealed that Sylvester made the false report as he wanted to deny his wife’s accusation that he went to have fun with another woman until he lost his bag, said the prosecution.
Sylvester requested or a lenient sentence.
He was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to six months or fine up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
Meanwhile, an unemployed man was fined RM1,500 or three months jail for committing similar offence.
Mohd Azril Yahyulalam, 33, admitted before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to giving false verbal information to ASP Andi Ma’mur Halwati at 10.30am on Feb 16 at the Criminal Investigation Office, Penampang Police Station.
