Fined RM2,000 for possessing bombed fish

TAWAU: Three men were fined RM2,000 in default  three months’ jail each for possessing fish which caught using explosives.

Tarasani Baltapa, 50, Jumsele Ingsang, 38, and Mahandi Sabturani, 37, entered their guilty pleas after the charge was read before Sessions Court Judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahaya, on Tuesday.

According to the charge sheet, the three men were found in possession of 10 bombed fish while aboard an unregistered pump boat in the waters off Tanjung Kiraz, near here at  2.30pm on June 2.

They were charged under Section 26(1)(c) of the Fisheries Act 1985 read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 25(b) of the same Act.

Upon conviction, they faced a fine of up to RM20,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both.

The prosecution was conducted by Prosecuting Officer Laester Bulun, while the trio were unrepresented.
