FIVE of the eight fingerprints found at the site where Harimau Malaya and Selangor FC winger Faisal Abdul Halim was attacked with acid were partial, Bernama reports.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the three fingerprints that could be processed did not match any in the police database, suggesting that the attacker did not have a police record.
Razarudin said five of the eight sets of fingerprints found at the scene were incomplete.
"The remaining three fingerprints did not match any in the police database, suggesting that the suspect does not have a police record.
“Police have distributed a photofit of the suspect and we urge anyone with information or who recognise the person to come forward to assist in the investigation,” he said.
Faisal suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body after he was splashed with acid by an unknown person in a Petaling Jaya mall on May 5. The injuries have restricted his movements and speech.
The player, who won the Best Goal Award at the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar in January, is expected to be sidelined for at least five months, missing two matches in the second round of the World Cup 2026/Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers against Kyrgyzstan and Taiwan next month.
The attack on Faisal was the third on a Malaysian football player last month.
He was attacked two days after Terengganu FC loan player Muhammad Akhyar Abdul Rashid was injured in the head and leg when he was set upon by two robbers in Kuala Terengganu.
