Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that all the suspects remanded today in connection with the attack at the Ulu Tiram police station early yesterday morning are Malaysian citizens. Contrary to media reports, no Singaporeans have been detained for this case.

Razarudin clarified, “All the seven individuals who were arrested yesterday and those remanded today are local citizens aged between 19 and 62 years old, and none of them are Singaporeans as reported.” He made this statement when contacted by Bernama this evening.

Magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Samsudin earlier approved the remand of these seven individuals, starting today and continuing until May 24, under Section 302 of the Penal Code. This remand is to facilitate the investigation into the violent attack at the Ulu Tiram police station.

The individuals remanded include five members of the primary suspect’s family, apprehended during a search at their home early yesterday morning. In addition, two college students, aged 21 and 22, who were present at the scene during the incident, have also been remanded.

The tragic event occurred at approximately 2:45 am, resulting in the deaths of Constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Constable Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24. They were attacked by a masked individual wielding a machete. During the same incident, Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan was shot but is currently in stable condition after receiving treatment at Sultan Ismail Hospital.

The police are working diligently to uncover the motives behind this attack and to ensure that all individuals involved are thoroughly investigated. The involvement of family members of the suspect has raised concerns and intensified the investigation, as authorities aim to determine the extent of their involvement and any underlying reasons for the attack.

The local community has been shocked by the brutal nature of this incident, and there is an outpouring of support for the families of the deceased officers. This tragic event underscores the risks faced by law enforcement officers and the importance of community support in maintaining safety and security.

As the investigation continues, the police urge the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could hinder the process. The authorities are committed to a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring justice for the fallen officers and their families.

The remand period until May 24 will allow investigators to delve deeper into the backgrounds and possible connections of the suspects, aiming to piece together the events leading up to the attack. The police have assured the community that they will keep them informed of any significant developments in the case.
