A fire broke out on the fourth floor of a multi-storey residential building in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash-1 area on Tuesday, prompting authorities to rush nine fire tenders, an official said.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call at 11.36 am regarding a fire in an air-conditioning unit at a house in GK-1 Enclave.
“Domestic articles caught fire inside a house on the fourth floor of the building. The fire was doused at 1.30 pm," the DFS officer said.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Satendra Singh, president of the GK-1 Residents’ Welfare Association, said local residents immediately alerted emergency services after noticing the fire.
“We got information that an AC had caught fire and immediately informed the fire brigade, ambulance and police. All emergency services reached on time. Everyone was evacuated safely and no casualties were reported," he said.
Singh added that the air-conditioner had reportedly undergone servicing two days before the incident.
A neighbour, Amarjeet Kaur, said people inside the house reacted quickly after noticing sparks.
“An AC sparked and the occupants immediately came into action. They went downstairs to switch off the main power supply of the building after turning off the AC. The room was completely filled with smoke," she said.
The exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
