
TAWAU: Some 180 residents of Kg Tanjung Batu Laut Logpond were made homeless, Wednesday, when fire swept through their water village destroying 45 houses.
The incident happened just five days before Muslims are scheduled to start their Ramadan fast.
The most unlucky are the students whose plans to resume classes on March 11 for the 2024–2025 school year were disrupted.
It is believed that the 300-house settlement was connected by three wooden bridges that were also destroyed in the fire.

Read more Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Jemishin Ujin said firefighters, including those from the Kg Titingan Community Fire Team, were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 2.31pm.
The team used water from fire engines, fire hydrants and the sea to extinguish the fire.
The fire was brought under control by 4.31pm.
There were no reports of injuries.
The cause of the fire and loss are being investigated.
