Fire destroys abandoned Kamunting factory storing old furniture

An abandoned factory in Kamunting used to store old furniture and clothing was 35% destroyed in a fire, with no casualties reported.

KAMUNTING: An abandoned factory used to store old furniture and clothing was damaged in a fire last night.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department said about 35% of the building along Jalan Perindustrian Kamunting Raya was destroyed.

Firefighters from the Kamunting station arrived five minutes after receiving an emergency call at 9.54 pm.

The blaze involved a vacant Class A factory with three blocks covering a large area.

Personnel found the fire in Block C and reported no casualties or injuries.

The operation involved personnel from the Taiping, Batu Kurau and Trong Fire and Rescue Stations.

They received assistance from the Parit Buntar, Bagan Serai, Kuala Sepetang, Kuala Kurau and Lembah Beriah Volunteer Fire Brigades.

“The operations commander carried out an initial assessment before firefighters began extinguishing the blaze using hose lines from the Kamunting engine,” said assistant director (Operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad.

He added that crews were supported by water from a nearby hydrant and a water tanker.

The fire was brought under control at 11.16 pm.

The operation ended at 1.30 am today with the cause still under investigation.
