Fire destroys Air Itam second-hand goods store and motorcycle

A storage unit for second-hand items and a motorcycle were destroyed in a late-night fire in Air Itam, with no casualties reported as firefighters quickly contained the blaze.

GEORGE TOWN: A storage facility for second-hand and recyclable goods, along with a motorcycle, was destroyed in a fire at Jalan Pokok Ceri, Air Itam, late last night.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division Assistant Director John Sagun Francis said the emergency call was received at 11:43 pm, prompting the immediate dispatch of the first engine from the Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Station.

Firefighters arriving at the scene found a 120-square-foot storage unit for second-hand items fully engulfed in flames, with the fire also involving a Honda RS motorcycle parked at the location.

No victims were reported in the incident, according to a statement from John Sagun Francis today.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze by 12:01 am, with the entire extinguishing operation concluding at 1:16 am today.

The cause of the fire and the total estimated losses are still under investigation.
