A fire in Kampung Chabang Tiga, Kota Bharu, has destroyed five houses and left 30 residents homeless, with the cause and total losses under investigation

KOTA BHARU: Thirty residents were left with only the clothes on their backs after a fire destroyed five houses in Kampung Chabang Tiga, Kedai Buloh, last night.

The blaze, which occurred at 9.45 pm, also caused approximately 10% structural damage to three other houses.

Victim Nor Lilis Zaidi, 23, was away from home when the fire broke out. She was alerted to the incident by a neighbour.

“My father, Zaidi Abdullah, and I were not at home at the time,” she told reporters today. “As soon as I received the call, I rushed back, but I could not save any belongings as the flames had already spread rapidly.”

She is now staying at her mother’s house in Kampung Kijang after all her possessions were destroyed.

Her elder sister, Norly Atira, 28, who lives in Melaka, rushed back to Kelantan upon hearing the news. She was devastated to find her family home in ruins.

The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) is currently investigating the cause of the blaze. The total losses involved have not yet been determined.
