TONGOD: Two houses, two grocery shops, a Perodua Kancil car, a motorcycle and two boat engines were destroyed in a house fire at Kampung Bolot here on Wednesday afternoon.

Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station chief Hairi Otuh said the station received an emergency call at 1.13pm and dispatched five personnel to the location, about 156km from the station.

He said two members of the nearby Volunteer Fire Brigade arrived at 2.20pm to assist, with firefighting operations using water from a nearby fire hydrant.

Other agencies assisting at the scene were the police, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, Health Ministry officers and Rela personnel, with the fire brought under control at 2.31pm and operations ending at 4.31pm.

A 62-year-old woman sustained burns to her arm and was treated by medical officers at the scene, while the cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
