The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) conducted an extensive effectiveness test on the fire alarm system in Block 70 of Sri Sabah flats in Cheras today. The objective of the test was to ensure the optimal functionality of the system in case of an emergency. Kuala Lumpur JBPM director, Muhammad Salleh Abdul, oversaw the comprehensive inspection, which covered a thorough examination of all fire hydrants on every floor of the residential block.

The test, carried out from morning to afternoon, aimed to identify the cause of the recent fire and to verify the proper functioning of all existing fire safety systems. Muhammad Salleh Abdul emphasized the importance of such evaluations to enhance preparedness and response capabilities in the event of future emergencies.

In addition to the fire alarm system assessment, a team of fire forensics assisted by two K9 unit dogs, named Jim and Woody, participated in the investigation. Drones were deployed to monitor the site, providing a comprehensive view of the affected area. A mobile police station was positioned under the block of flats to facilitate coordination, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of various agencies in managing the aftermath of the incident.

The compound of Block 70 witnessed the presence of a fire engine and two JBPM vehicles. Residents of Block 70, impacted by the recent fire, had to descend to collect water due to the supply being cut off during the incident.

The fire, which occurred last night, resulted in the destruction of five units on the 17th floor of Block 70 in the Sri Sabah flats. The distress call was received by JBPM at 9:19 pm, and the fire was successfully brought under control by 11:22 pm, according to JBPM Fire and Rescue Operations Division director, Nordin Pauzi.

As investigations continue to determine the cause of the fire and assess the overall safety measures, the proactive measures taken by JBPM highlight the commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of residents. The collaborative approach involving fire forensics, K9 units, drones, and other resources demonstrates the multi-faceted strategy employed in managing and mitigating the impact of such incidents. These efforts play a crucial role in enhancing the overall emergency response capabilities and safety protocols within residential areas.
