In response to the recent fire incident at Sri Sabah Flats, all 16 victims from five affected families are set to be relocated to transit homes at Sri Johor Flats in Cheras this Thursday. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, mentioned that the victims can stay in these transit homes for a duration ranging from six months to three years, depending on whether they own or rent a house.
During her visit to the temporary evacuation center at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Cheras, Dr. Zaliha Mustafa revealed that those who own a house are permitted to stay in the transit homes for six months, while renters are granted a three-year occupancy. The announcement was made in the presence of Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad.
In a display of support, a total of RM7,300 in cash donations and essential items were distributed among the five affected families. The contributions came from various sources, with the Department of Federal Territories (JWP) contributing RM5,000, DBKL RM1,000, Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary service center RM1,000, and the Department of Social Welfare RM300.
The fire incident, which occurred on the 17th floor of Block 70 in the Sri Sabah Flats, Cheras, resulted in the destruction of five units last Sunday. The cause of the fire is believed to be related to electrical wiring issues.
Addressing the need for preventative measures, Dr. Wan Azizah suggested that the fire department should engage in public education to enhance fire preparedness. She emphasized the importance of educating the public on proper actions to take in case of a fire and recommended guidance on using fire extinguishers effectively to contain fires promptly.
As the affected families prepare for their relocation to the transit homes at Sri Johor Flats, the community, local authorities, and relevant departments are working together to provide necessary assistance and support during this challenging time.
