Firefighters helped recover a wedding ring from the rubble of a home destroyed by the Sandy Fire in Simi Valley, California.
Crews carefully sifted through the burned remains of the property, recovering the ring along with several other valuable personal belongings belonging to the Boyle family.
Footage shared by the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) on 22 May showed firefighters searching through the debris. The department wrote: “Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Engine 85 assigned to the Sandy Fire in Simi Valley came to the aid of the Boyle family, whose home was destroyed by the fire.”
The family later expressed their gratitude to firefighters from across California who responded to the blaze and helped them in its aftermath.
As of Friday, 22 May, the Sandy Fire had burned 2,141 acres and was 40 per cent contained, according to Cal Fire.
The following Monday, it was 90 per cent contained, having burned 2,183 acres.
