Tensions rose at a KL protest after fireworks were set off and a convoy was briefly stopped by authorities near Dataran Merdeka.
KUALA LUMPUR: Fireworks were set off along roads near the rally route near Sogo as participants gathered for speeches earlier today, briefly causing alarm among those present.
At the same time, organisers said the situation remained under control and checks by theSun found no reports of injuries.
As of press time, a convoy linked to the rally was briefly blocked by authorities from proceeding towards Dataran Merdeka, halting its movement for a few minutes before it resumed moving again.
The incident occurred while speeches were ongoing, with loud bursts echoing through parts of the gathering area.
Organisers have urged participants to remain calm, while also alleging possible sabotage linked to the disruption.
“Lawan tetap lawan,” they said, as the rally continued under close monitoring by organisers and volunteers.
