A PROTEST rally against MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki briefly turned tense after fireworks were set off near the Sogo shopping complex, interrupting speeches and causing chaos among rally goers.
In the confusion, one person was believed to have been hurt and was seen covering his eyes right after the fireworks went off.
Police moved in soon after, cordoning off the area and bringing the situation under control, allowing the rally to continue.
Earlier on, more than a hundred people had gathered outside the complex for the “Tangkap Azam Baki” rally.
Despite light rain, the crowd stayed, chanting and singing short protest songs calling for action against the anti-corruption chief.
More people continued to join as the rally went on. Among those seen at the scene was Noraishah Mydin Abdul Aziz, who previously contested the Putrajaya parliamentary seat.
Representatives from MCA Youth were also present, including deputy vice-chairman Tan Yang Pang and publicity deputy chairman Chai Jie Yang.
There was also a noticeable police presence, with officers stationed along nearby roads and at the mall entrance, supported by members of the Kuala Lumpur Police Strike Force. – April 25, 2026
