MANILA, Philippines — First Lady Liza Marcos provided legal and medical assistance to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City on Tuesday.
The “Kulay, Kalinga, Katarungan at Kalayaan” program brought together more than 200 lawyers to review inmates’ cases and assist in processing documents for those eligible for release.
Forty-three PDLs will be released Tuesday, with over 1,000 others being processed for release in the coming weeks—with many expecting to return home in time for Christmas.
Aside from the legal assistance, the program also featured a dermatological and wellness mission that provided healthcare services to PDLs, supporting both their physical and mental health.
The program also held painting activities for PDLs to express themselves in a creative manner.
Through the initiative, the first lady aims to provide PDLs with an avenue for growth and assistance as they prepare to rejoin society.
