THE Philippine Fisheries Development Authority recently reported that unloading of fish at its regional ports increased by 9.91 percent in February.

Deliveries totaled 39,267.36 metric tons (MT), up from the 35,725.32 MT in the same month last year.

Among the fish port complexes, General Santos posted the highest unloading volume at 19,861.02 MT, although this was 4.9 percent lower than its 20,900.54 MT record last year.

Navotas again ranked second at 13,964.13 MT, a 53.75-percent jump from the 9,082.352 MT last year. This was also a reversal from the decline in volume last year, caused by the prolonged northeast (amihan) monsoon season.

Unloading in Iloilo was up by 9.32 percent to 2,127.58 MT compared to 1,946.25 MT last year.

Lucena recorded a 13.04 percent increase from February 2025‘s monthly unloading volume of 1,618.29 MT.

However, unloading in Zamboanga declined to 529.27 MT or 34.76 percent lower than 811.27 MT in the same month last year.

Davao posted the highest increase in fish unloading volume, surging by 136.93 percent to 613.72 MT from last year‘s 259.03 MT.

Bulan delivered 342.25 MT, or an almost 69.10 percent decrease from last year‘s 1,107.45 MT.
