An 11-year-old boy was found drowned after he was believed to have fallen into a water channel while fishing with a friend at Kampung Masangkong, near here, on Thursday afternoon.
Kudat Fire and Rescue Station chief Darikson Galanang said the victim was believed to have slipped and fallen into the canal during the fishing activity.
He said the victim was found by members of the public before the arrival of the fire and rescue team and was later pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
He added that a team of firefighters, together with a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle, was dispatched to the location about 14 kilometres away after receiving an emergency call at 5.59pm.
