Kishtwar police have arrested five persons in connection with a sacrilege case reported from the Chatroo area of the district.

SSP Kishtwar Naresh Singh said that on May 8, police received information regarding an alleged act of sacrilege by unidentified persons. Acting swiftly, police registered a case under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Chatroo and launched an investigation.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SHO Chatroo Inspector Rishi Kumar was constituted under the supervision of Additional SP Kishtwar Pardeep Singh and DSP Dachhan Nitish Sharma.

“During the course of investigation, multiple suspects were rounded up for sustained questioning. Through meticulous analysis of technical evidence and human intelligence, the involvement of the main accused was established. Subsequently, five accused persons were arrested and sharp-edged implements were also recovered on their disclosure,” the SSP said.

The accused have been identified as Sajjad Hussain, Din Mohammad, Mohammad Ramzan, Ghulam Hassan and Mohammad Ismail, all residents of Kawath Drubeel in Tehsil Mughalmaidan.

The SSP appealed to the public to maintain communal harmony and refrain from indulging in or supporting any act that hurts the religious sentiments of any community.

He emphasised that Kishtwar police remain committed to taking strict action against anyone attempting to disturb peace and harmony in the district.
