KENINGAU: Police have detained five teenage boys to assist investigations into the alleged rape of a 12-year-old schoolgirl at a house in a village here on Monday.
District police chief Supt Yampil Garai said the victim's mother began searching for her at about 6pm after being informed that the girl was at a relative's house with several males.
He said the complainant went to the house and found several males leaving the premises before they were later brought back to the location.
According to Yampil, five suspects are believed to have been involved in the incident, comprising two relatives of the victim and three of their friends.
Initial investigations found that the victim had gone to the house with a friend after helping at a family wedding earlier that day, and police are continuing investigations into the case.
