A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy tragically lost his life yesterday afternoon after being struck by a multi-purpose vehicle while crossing a road in Alor Gajah.
The incident occurred at approximately 5.09 pm on Jalan Paya Mengkuang, where the young victim, Muhammad Iman Nazzhan Jasri, was believed to be crossing from a residential area to the opposite side of the street.
Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar, Chief of Police for the Alor Gajah district, said initial investigations revealed that the boy was hit by a Toyota Avanza driven by a 64-year-old man travelling from Paya Mengkuang towards Masjid Tanah.
“As a result of the collision, the child suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the Masjid Tanah Health Clinic but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment,” he stated.
Ahmad noted that the road at the time of the incident was a two-lane street with dry pavement and clear weather conditions. He added that examination of the scene revealed tyre skid marks of approximately five metres, and the vehicle sustained front-end damage. “A urine test conducted on the driver, who works as a supervisor, returned negative for any illegal substances,” he confirmed.
The boy’s body has been sent to the Forensic Unit of Alor Gajah Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
