KUNAK: Over ten houses in the low-lying area of Kg Airport, Jalan Tun Fuad, were submerged following continuous heavy rain from Friday night to early Saturday morning.
This marks the first flood in the area this year, though it is less severe than the one in February last year. Lahad Datu Umno Youth Chief, Dato' Sri Anil Sandhu, visited the affected area on Saturday and is coordinating aid for victims.
Expressing sympathy, especially with Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaching, Anil urged residents to remain cautious, particularly about potential reptile threats in floodwaters. He also stressed the need for a contingency plan to reduce future flood risks.
The floodwaters, rising from around 4 AM due to the Kalumpang River overflow, began receding by midday Saturday.
