LAHAD DATU: Heavy rain on Wednesday caused flash floods in several areas, including residential zones in the district.

Among the areas affected are Fajar Centre, Jalan Segama Lama, Kampung Batu 1, Kampung Batu 2 and surrounding areas, Bandar Tabanak, Kampung Tabanak, Lahad Datu town area, Jalan Singgamata, Kampung Pisang, Kampung Pancuran, Dam Road, Palm Garden, Palm Heights Residence and Jalan Tengah Nipah.

The heavy rain began around 1pm, and water levels started rising at about 3pm. By 3.40pm, the road at Jalan Singgamata became impassable for small vehicles.

Reports indicated that a house in Kampung Pisang and two vehicles on Jalan Singgamata were swept away by the floodwaters.

Flash floods frequently occur in these areas during prolonged rainfall, largely due to the drainage system.

Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Sumsoa Rashid, said that as of 3.40pm, no official reports had been received regarding the flash floods.

However, personnel from his department were deployed to monitor the situation in the affected areas.
