Hansi Flick has outlined his “dream” to win the Champions League at Barcelona.
The 61-year-old German this week extended his contract until June 2028, with the option of a further year, after winning a second successive La Liga title at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona end a season, which has also seen them win the Supercopa de Espana, at Valencia on Saturday, but boss Flick is already looking beyond that with the target of more silverware.
He said: “We are on the right path. These two seasons have been successful, with five trophies in total, but we want more next season.
“We are committed 100% and everyone knows the dream is to win the Champions League, that’s our aim.
“It’s been a tough season, but I think the next one will be even harder, so we have to be ready.
“I’ve said it many times, I’m only focused on my team and my club. I have a lot of work to do and I’m not worried about the rest.
“We want to win our final game. Ending the season with a victory is always a good sign.”
Fermin Lopez has confirmed that he will miss the upcoming World Cup with Spain after undergoing surgery on a fractured foot.
The 23-year-old playmaker was injured in Barcelona’s 3-1 league victory over Real Betis on Sunday.
“It’s very tough,” Flick said. “He’s had an outstanding season.
“It hurts him, and it hurts us. We were hoping he’d play in the World Cup; it’s every player’s dream to be with Spain.
“That’s life. He’ll have to keep working. We support him, and I’m sure he’ll come back stronger.”
Flick says he is “eager” to see players from the club’s La Masia academy during pre-season.
But assistant Thiago Alcantara is leaving and the former midfielder said his goodbyes to the squad and coaching staff during Barcelona’s final training session of the season on Friday.
Flick said: “I told the staff and the players about my relationship with Thiago. When I was an assistant at Bayern and later became head coach, one of the first things I had to do was put Thiago on the bench, and it was not easy for either of us because he was a world-class player.
“I changed the philosophy of the way we played a little bit, but his attitude, his mentality, and the way he handled everything were incredible.
“He helped me a lot here in my work at Barça and over the last two years he has been amazing.
“We will miss him, but I understand that he has his own plans and that is a good thing.
“I hope one day he can come back because football needs people like him.”
