Flood situation improves in Sarawak as victim numbers drop

The number of flood and landslide victims in Sarawak has fallen to 29 people, with only two relief centres still operational in Miri

MIRI: The flood and landslide situation in Sarawak continues to improve, with the number of evacuees dropping significantly.

Only two temporary relief centres remain operational in Miri as of 4 pm today.

The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee reported that the total number of victims has decreased to 29 people from 17 families.

This is a sharp decline from the 127 people from 60 families recorded yesterday.

The relief centre at SK Suai Niah now houses 21 flood victims from 14 families.

It previously sheltered 119 people from 57 families.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Red Crescent hall continues to operate as a relief centre.

It currently accommodates four flood victims from two families.

The same centre is also housing four members of a family affected by a landslide. – Bernama
