Floods: 36 people evacuated in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: Thirty-six people were evacuated to the Temporary Transfer Centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kg Pertanian, Tuesday, after their homes in Kampung Garinono, Mile 25, were hit by floods.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief Severinus Sainkui said the victims comprised 30 adults, an elderly, a boy, two girls and two infants.

He said they received a call via MERS999 at 6.06am and dispatched rescue teams to assist in relocating the affected victims.

Six houses and a school were reported to be affected by the floods, which began on Monday night.

Severinus said monitoring of houses was conducted using a Whaley fire boat with seven members, in collaboration with the Sandakan security agency chiefs.
