MANILA, Philippines — Gutter to ankle-deep floods hit parts of Manila on Thursday due to nonstop monsoon rains, the city's disaster agency said.
As of 10:30 a.m., the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD) reported gutter-deep floodwaters along Taft Avenue near the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), General Malvar Street, and the corner of Quirino Avenue. Ankle-deep water was also recorded along Taft Avenue corner Nakpil Street.
Other affected areas include De La Salle University, P. Ocampo Street, Estrada Street, and Remedios Street.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised a yellow rainfall warning earlier in the day.
Under Localized Heavy Rainfall Advisory 1 released, the city government said moderate to heavy rains could persist for two to three hours and advised the public to remain alert for potential flash floods in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, municipal maintenance operations were conducted in Binondo on Wednesday ahead of the rainfall.
The Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) Highway Division III carried out declogging operations and repaired a drainage frame at the corner of Commercio and Sto. Cristo Streets in Barangay 271.
