Kota Kinabalu: As the nation prepares to celebrate its independence, Malaysians are urged to raise the Jalur Gemilang and state flags high, sending a powerful message of unity, pride and unwavering love for the country.

In a renewed call to instil patriotism, State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun encouraged citizens to lead by example in displaying the Jalur Gemilang and state flags ahead of the National Day and Sabah Day celebrations.

“Expressing love for our nation goes beyond ceremony; it should be a personal declaration of pride for our State and Malaysia,” he said, noting that the City Hall flag-raising campaign launched on Aug 1 has received encouraging support from both business premises and the public.

He expressed hope that the campaign would continue to gain momentum, with citizens displaying both the national and state flags, even from their homes.

Speaking at a press conference announcing the State-level National Day and Sabah Day celebrations, Masidi said some 50,000 people are expected to attend the 2025 State-level National Day Celebration, which will take place at Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens on Aug 31.

The celebrations will also be graced by the presence of Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman, who is scheduled to arrive at 7.30am, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will also be attending.

Masidi, who is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee, added that the Sabah Day event will follow in the evening, offering a variety of exciting activities.

“This year, 157 contingents will participate in the parade, representing schools, higher learning institutions, uniformed bodies, volunteer associations, and non-governmental organisations,” he said, noting 50 scooter riders will be joining the parade contingents for the first time.

Masidi urged the public to arrive early, as last year’s parade area filled up by 6am due to high turnout.

“The Sabah Day celebration will continue in the evening at Padang Merdeka, extending the spirit of unity and pride from the National Day celebration,” he added.

“We encourage all Malaysians in Sabah to proudly display the flag at their businesses and homes throughout this month as a sign of our love for the state and our nation,” he concluded.

Among those who attended the press conference include Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Tan Lee Fatt.
