RANAU: The celebration of National Day 2024 in the district was further fuelled by the presence of dozens of vehicle and motorcycle convoys carrying the Jalur Gemilang which was unveiled here on Thursday.
Ranau MP Datuk Jonathan Yasin flagged off the Jalur Gemilang Convoy Merdeka Parade at the Ranau District Federal Complex.
“We are gathering on this historic day to celebrate re-invigorating the Jalur Gemilang Merdeka 2024 programme for Ranau district.
“Thank you to the Ministry of Communications and also strategic partners who have chosen the Ranau District Federal Complex as the location for the implementation of the programme this time.

Jonathan said all parties involved must join hands in fuelling the spirit of patriotism that would be achieved in conjunction with the upcoming National Month and Malaysia Day 2024.
This year, he said, is also a special year for Sabahans because this year is the first year that Sabahans celebrate Sabah Day after it was gazetted on June 5.
“For all my fellow Sabahans, I would like to share a few things where on Aug 31, some parties made it an issue.
“Some people ask why we should achieve independence on Aug 31 because it is Independence Day for the peninsula.
“But actually, on the same date in 1963, we in Sabah achieved Sabah Independence Day and it was celebrated in Kota Belud as well as Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan, therefore it is also a historic day for all Sabahans,” he said.
Jonathan added that coinciding with the National Day theme this year which is “Malaysia Madani, Jiwa Merdeka”, the spirit of patriotism and self-identity shown by the freedom fighters should continue to be inherited by the people in aspects of life until now.
“By sticking to the theme of this celebration, let’s be determined to further strengthen the spirit of independence in every Malaysian, as we build a country that is not only physically free but also free in terms of thought, culture and economy.
“Therefore, the Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Campaign is not only an annual event but also a symbol of our unity, pride and gratitude as Malaysians.
“Let this programme remind us of the sacrifices and efforts of the heroes who have fought for the freedom and prosperity that we are enjoying today,” he said.
Jonathan also encouraged all the people in Ranau to participate in flying the Jalur Gemilang, coinciding with the call of “One House One Jalur Gemilang”.
“This provides an opportunity for all of us to show our love and appreciation for the country, and this not only enlivens the atmosphere of Independence Day but also strengthens our bond as Malaysians.
“Remember that every small step we have taken to show our love for the country, such as flying the Jalur Gemilang, will have a big impact because Malaysia is our home, which we need to take care of,” he said.
Also present were Sabah State Information Director Jainisah Mohd. Noor, Ranau District Officer Tinus Manggang, participants of Kembara Merdeka, Jalur Gemilang Convoy, Officials and Staff of the Ranau Parliamentary Office and others.
