Kota Kinabalu: The much-awaited Foh Sang Community Multi-storey Parking cum Market will be operational on Jan. 1.

Luyang Assemblyman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, who is also State Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister, said this during a dialogue with 100 vendors and shop owners on Sunday to discuss detailed plans for the new market’s operation.

AdvertisementThe modern facility boasts 321 car parking bays and 22 motorcycle parking spaces, with an introductory rate of RM1 per hour.

In a gesture to encourage usage, parking would be free for the first two months.

Phoong said he would allocate RM1,000 from his constituency fund to each relocated vendor to support their transition.

Existing vendors would be given priority during the initial relocation phase, with remaining stalls to be allocated through a ballot process two months after the launch.

“We are not just creating a new market, but transforming the entire trading ecosystem,” he said.

He said future plans include upgrading surrounding areas and developing pedestrian walkways, promising continued improvements to the neighbourhood.
