In a heartfelt recognition of his exceptional contribution to the preservation, promotion and propagation of Himachal Pradesh’s folk culture, music and traditional heritage, Governor Kavinder Gupta honoured renowned folk singer Inderjeet with a commendation letter today at the Lok Bhawan in Shimla.
Hailing from a humble rural background in Kullu district, Inderjeet has carved a distinct identity for himself both nationally and internationally through his unwavering dedication, hard work and deep devotion to folk music. His soulful voice and melodious renditions have not only elevated the cultural identity of Himachal to new heights but have also inspired the younger generation to reconnect with their roots and folk traditions.
His songs resonate with the earthy fragrance of Himachal’s soil, the simplicity of its rural life and a deep expression of human emotions. Notably, his efforts to revive endangered folk tunes and nearly forgotten songs have been widely applauded.
Beyond entertainment, Inderjeet has used his art as a powerful medium for social change. His anti-drug songs, such as “Mat Karade Nasha” and “Chitta Mukt Himachal,” deliver a compelling message to the youth, encouraging them to stay away from substance abuse. Through his creativity and social commitment, he has consistently worked to foster positive consciousness, cultural pride and social awareness in the community.
Presenting the commendation letter, Governor Gupta said, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Inderjeet for his invaluable contribution to Himachal’s rich folk culture, music and traditional heritage. His art is not merely a means of entertainment but a strong message of positive consciousness, cultural pride and social awakening.”
The Governor further expressed confidence that Inderjeet would continue to enrich the state’s folk heritage through his art in the years to come. He concluded by offering his blessings and best wishes for Inderjeet’s bright and successful future.
