KUCHING (April 19): Sarawak needs to follow Sabah in denying the Democratic Action Party (DAP) any seats in the next state election, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president, said Sarawak should continue to chart its own course without being swayed by external political narratives, noting the political move in Sabah where the Democratic Action Party (DAP) failed to win any seats in the past state election.

“In 2025, Sabah followed in the footsteps of Sarawak. For Sarawak in 2026, what do we need to do? Follow Sabah, give DAP ‘eggs’,” he said.

By eggs, Dr Sim meant the action of giving DAP zero chance to capture any seats, using the term ‘eggs’ as a euphemism for the number zero.

He said this when delivering his speech at the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Convention 2026 held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Sunday.

Dr Sim also said Sarawak is increasingly becoming a point of reference for other states.

He emphasised that Sarawak has remained politically stable and united over the years, crediting long-standing cooperation among local political parties since the 1970s, later joined by partners such as Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

As such, he stressed the importance of ensuring that positive developments are communicated effectively to the public.

“In Sarawak, bad news often goes viral, while good news remains quiet,” he said, urging greater efforts to promote the state’s achievements and progress.
