PETALING JAYA: Former football player and national coach Rahim Abdullah passed away early this morning at the age of 77.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) said that Rahim, an ex-cop, had represented Malaysia in several international tournaments.
These include the South Vietnam Independence Cup and the Jakarta Anniversary Tournament, both in 1971, as well as the Merdeka Tournament in 1973.
Rahim had also represented Malaysia in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany. In 2004, he was inducted into the Olympic Council of Malaysia’s Hall of Fame for his role in the 1972 Olympics football team.
“May Allah bless his soul, forgive his sins, and grant him a place among the righteous. Al-Fatihah,” FAM said in a Facebook post.
Rahim served as head coach of the national football team in 1991, leading the team during the SEA Games.
He also played for several state teams, including Penang, Perak, and Selangor.
