Foreign couple detained after homemade air rifle found during Felda Purun raid

A FOREIGN couple has been detained after police discovered a homemade air rifle during a raid at an unnumbered house in the Felda Purun oil palm estate in Bera, amid suspicions of illegal residence and firearms-related offences.

The pair, a 43-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman believed to be husband and wife, were arrested during Op Taring Laras, an intelligence-led operation conducted by the General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 7 based in Kuantan.

District police chief Zulkiflee Nazir said the raid was carried out at 7.50pm on April 28 following intelligence reports of suspicious activity in the area.

“During a search in the bedroom, we found a black and brown air rifle placed at a corner of the room.

“Checks on the occupants also found that both failed to produce any valid travel or identification documents to remain in Malaysia,” he said in a statement.

Preliminary investigations suggest the couple had been residing in Malaysia for around two years. However, police confirmed that no pellets or ammunition were found at the premises.

Both suspects, along with the seized item, were taken to the Bera district police headquarters for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, authorities said. - April 30, 2026
