TAWAU: A foreign man in his 40s was arrested after allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl at a shophouse in the Kalabakan area at about 4.40am on Monday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the suspect was arrested by a team from Kalabakan Police Station at a row of shops near the Kalabakan Roundabout at about 9.45am following a report from the complainant.
“Police have classified the case as molestation, with the suspect detained and investigation conducted under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792),” he said here on Tuesday.
Rosdi said the girl was awakened by what sounded like a cat before a masked man suddenly appeared, opened the curtain and entered her sleeping area before climbing onto her mattress, prompting her to scream for help and struggle with him.
“The victim also claimed that she was kicked before the man fled the scene,” he said, adding that the suspect was also found to have no identification documents recognised by the authorities.
