TAWAU: Police detained a 39-year-old man on Monday to assist investigations into alleged criminal intimidation involving his wife at a hospital here.
Acting Tawau Police Chief Supt Wilynton Enchana Watt said the man allegedly approached his wife at her workplace and threatened to harm her after she refused to comply with his request.
He is also suspected of sending threatening voice messages to his wife via WhatsApp.
The woman, who feared for her safety, lodged a police report following repeated harassment and threats.
Police from the District Criminal Investigation Division later detained the man at a rented room in Jalan Dunlop. A smartphone and SIM card were also seized to assist investigations.
Wilynton said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. Police are recording statements from the man, his wife and witnesses.
He advised the public to take threats seriously and lodge a police report immediately so that appropriate action can be taken.
