Foreign student held as police probe suspected murder of female student

POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a foreign woman in her 20s, who was studying at a private higher education institution in Petaling Jaya, was found dead with multiple injuries inside a condominium in Bandar Sunway on Tuesday.

Investigators have detained a fellow foreign student, believed to be in his 20s and enrolled at the same institution, to assist in the investigation as forensic officers continue examining evidence recovered from the scene.

Petaling Jaya Deputy District Police Chief Superintendent M Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly said police were alerted to the incident at about 11.03am.

"Acting on the information received, police proceeded to the location and found a woman believed to have died.

"Preliminary examinations revealed several injuries on the victim's body," he said in a statement.

He said the suspect was arrested at the condominium shortly after the discovery of the victim's body.

According to M Hussin, the forensic team processing the scene also seized several exhibits believed to be significant to the investigation.

"The forensic team conducting investigations at the scene seized several items believed to assist the investigation.

"The motive for the incident remains under investigation and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.

The victim's body has been taken to the University of Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Police have appealed to anyone with information relating to the case to come forward or contact the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Surianti Lataera, on 013-3352547. - June 24, 2026
