Foreigner dies in Sandakan mishap

SANDAKAN: A 38-year-old foreigner died in an accident at Batu 33, Beluran-Sandakan Road, Wednesday.

District Police Chief, ACP Ashmon Bajah, said the victim, who was driving alone in a Perodua Kancil from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan, was involved in the incident around 6:20am.

“Upon arriving at the scene, an unidentified vehicle from the opposite direction had entered his lane to overtake another vehicle.

“To avoid a collision, the victim tried to move his vehicle to the left side of the road but hit a Mitsubishi ASX SUV that stopped on the roadside,” he said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

The victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK) in Sandakan for an autopsy.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The public with information is urged to come forward to help police in their investigations into the accident.
