SANDAKAN: A 40-year-old local man was arrested with RM2 million worth of contraband cigarettes during a police raid at a warehouse on Jalan Airport, Mile 7 here on Saturday.
District police chief ACP Ashmon Bajah said the 12.50pm operation involved officers from the General Operations Force (GOF) Headquarters in Bukit Aman and Battalion 15 GOF Sandakan.
Authorities also seized a four-wheel-drive vehicle along with the illicit cigarettes.
The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, which carries a fine of up to RM500,000, a jail term of up to five years, or both upon conviction.
