TAWAU: A foreigner suspected of trespassing into a plantation while carrying a homemade pellet air rifle was arrested at Mile 15, Jalan Apas-Balung, here, on Monday.
Tawau Acting District Police Chief Supt Wilynton Enchana Watt said the suspect was detained by a team from the Bandar Sri Indah (BSI) Police Station during a crime prevention patrol.
He said police spotted the suspect sitting near a tree inside the plantation before conducting a check on him.
“The arrest followed a police report lodged by the plantation owner, who reported seeing an unknown man behaving suspiciously in the area.
“The complainant also told police that the man was seen carrying a homemade pellet air rifle and was believed to have cut the chain securing the plantation gate,” he said, here, Wednesday.
Wilynton said during initial questioning, the suspect led police to the location of the black-and-green pellet air rifle, which had been placed on a chair near a tree in the plantation.
“The discovery led to the seizure of the weapon for further investigation. Further checks also found that the suspect did not possess any valid identification documents,” he said.
He added that police had opened an investigation paper against the suspect under Section 447 of the Penal Code, Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
