PAPAR: Form Five student, 17, was killed while another 17-year-old male was injured in a collision involving two motorcycles along Jalan Beringgis-Kawang at about 8.30pm, here, Tuesday.
Papar District Police Chief Supt Heryan Mohd Tahir said preliminary investigations indicated that a Honda Wave ridden towards Beringgis collided with a Demak Spark, which was believed to have emerged from the roadside and made a sudden U-turn.
The Demak Spark rider suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Honda Wave rider sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Papar Hospital.
Heryan said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with further investigations underway to determine the cause and circumstances of the collision.
He urged anyone with information to contact the Papar District Police Headquarters’ Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, while advising motorcyclists to obey traffic rules and ensure the road was safe before making U-turns, and parents and guardians to monitor their children and emphasise road safety.
