Kota Kinabalu: Former Bongawan Assemblyman Datuk Karim Bujang (pic) died at his residence in Kampung Sipanggil, Putatan, at noon on Sunday, aged 73.
His close acquaintance Nerro Khan Sulaiman said Karim’s remains were bathed at the Kampung Sipanggil surau before being taken to Surau Imam Abdullah in Kampung Brunei, Kimanis, for prayers and later buried at the Kampung Brunei Muslim cemetery.
A veteran Sabah politician, Karim represented Bongawan for five terms from 1990 to 2013 and had also served as an Assistant Minister in the State Cabinet.
He first won Bongawan in 1990 on a United Sabah National Organisation (Usno) ticket before joining Umno and retaining the seat until 2008, later joining Parti Warisan and unsuccessfully contesting the Kimanis parliamentary seat in 2018 and the subsequent Kimanis by-election in January 2020.
Karim, who was known for donating to those in need, leaves behind his wife Datin Maimun Pg Bagul, two sons and three grandchildren.
