KOTA KINABALU: A former assistant accountant of a government agency was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah branch for allegedly submitting documents containing false particulars involving upgrading and maintenance works worth about RM90,000.

Sabah MACC Director Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrest on Saturday, saying the case is being investigated under Sections 18 and 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

He said the female suspect, believed to be in her 50s, was detained at about 1pm during an operation conducted by MACC officers.

Preliminary investigations found that the suspect allegedly committed the offence in 2025 by submitting government purchase orders, invoices and company quotations containing false details related to the supply, upgrading and maintenance works at the department where she was employed.

The woman is also suspected of directly appointing a company owned by a family member to obtain bribes.
