Former IGB REIT Management chief executive officer Elizabeth Tan Hui Ning has died at the age of 42.
IGB REIT Management announced her passing on Sept 22 in a notice to tenants, business partners and colleagues, saying her contributions had left a lasting impact on both IGB REIT and IGB Commercial REIT.
The company also extended its condolences to her father, Datuk Seri Robert Tan Chung Meng, who is executive chairman of IGB REIT Management and a major unitholder of both REITs, as well as her sister, Gabrielle Tan Hui Chween, and the rest of the family.
Joined Mid Valley City Gardens in 2004
Elizabeth was a seasoned figure in Malaysia’s property sector.
She graduated from Cardiff University in Wales with First Class Honours in Business Administration in June 2004 before joining Mid Valley City Gardens Sdn Bhd just two months later.
Her career progressed quickly, with Elizabeth appointed as an executive director in January 2011.
She later served as Joint Chief Operating Officer and Head of Operations and Leasing at The Gardens Mall, where she was responsible for areas including leasing, retail development, customer service and the mall’s overall operations.
Became IGB REIT Management CEO in 2024
Elizabeth was appointed CEO of IGB REIT Management effective Jan 2, 2024, following the retirement of longtime CEO Antony Patrick Barragry.
She also remained an executive director of the company while overseeing the management of IGB REIT and IGB Commercial REIT.
However, in March 2025, she stepped down from the CEO role due to medical reasons.
Her father Robert Tan was subsequently redesignated as executive chairman, while Barragry returned from retirement to serve as acting CEO.
Resigned from IGB Berhad role earlier this year
Elizabeth had also served as an alternate director of IGB Berhad.
On Jan 23, 2026, the company announced that she was resigning from the position due to health issues. The filing stated that her departure was not related to any disagreement with the board.
Her passing was described by IGB REIT Management as a major loss to the organisation and the wider property industry.
The company said Elizabeth would be deeply remembered by those who had the opportunity to know and work with her.
