The MACC has detained a former minister in Putrajaya to assist in investigations related to the Tabung Haji RCI report on a Saudi hotel lease.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today detained a former minister to assist in investigations in connection with issues raised by the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).
The male suspect, in his 60s, was believed to have been detained at about 4.30 pm after he turned up at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to have his statement recorded.
According to a post on the MACC’s TikTok account, the arrest was linked to an issue involving a hotel lease agreement in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrest when contacted, and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
He added that the suspect would be taken to the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court tomorrow morning to be remanded.
On Saturday (Aug 29), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was quoted as saying that the investigation into issues raised in the RCI report on TH would continue to ensure that the country does not suffer further losses.
